Traveling with Tyler

Writing a little appreciation post for Sweet Tyler  to celebrate his 30th trip around the sun! This past trip and a half has been a whirlwind adventure. Reflecting on all our travels, trials, triumphs as well as the SIGNIFICANT amounts of one-on-one time, I am so very thankful that I get to live this adventure life with Tyler.

Tyler is the perfect traveling partner. He loves to do the driving, so I get to be the passenger princess 99% of the time. He is amazing at logistics and planning; he enjoys scouring National Park websites to find the right dog friendly hike, Thrillist to find the perfect restaurant with an outdoor patio, and Furnished Finder to find us a safe and cost effective short-term rental. I hate doing all that research; so getting a short list of options to choose from is such a blessing. I think my go with the flow attitude and Tyler’s ability and love of planning (mostly this) has made us a strong traveling pair.

Driving with Tyler

Tyler is also the opposite of a boring travel partner. He always has a thoughtful question to discuss on our long car rides, he is down to play my silly games, and he has great taste in music. If you’re ever going on a road trip with Tyler, don’t worry about any awkward silence. Sometimes I have to ask for quiet time when I just don’t have any mental capacity to listen or make conversation.

We made a massive playlist of all the songs we like, and Tyler doesn’t make us skip every Harry Styles or Taylor Swift song. This does mean I have to hear the Hobbit song and the Goofy Movie dance song in every National Park though.

Quality Time

We have gotten to see so many friends in our travels across the country, but we have also spent significant amounts of time just the two of us. We have definitely felt starved of friendship at a few points (we went three months just the two of us at one point!), but I am thankful to say we never got tired of each other. We joke that every night is like a sleepover because we fall asleep laughing most nights. I’m super blessed that Tyler thinks I am as funny as I think I am. We really match each other’s goofball energy. Cheesy but true, Tyler is my best friend!

Tyler is a wonderful partner to have when facing trials too. Car repairs, getting stuck on top of a mountain in a hail storm in shorts and Chacos, or having a rental cancel on us the morning of move in, Tyler keeps a clear head and problem solves. I am always saying how thankful I am to face these trials with him as a team.

Tyler Perks

Tyler is a coffee snob, 100%. But I really can’t complain because this means he grinds fresh beans and take the time to make pour overs for us every morning. Not many people can say they get a desk delivered pour over exactly how they like it (frothed with a little cream and collagen powder) every day.  If this means I have to wait the 10 minutes at a coffee shop for him to get his pour over, even when we are running late, I’ll take it.

Tyler is also one of the most encouraging people I have ever met in my life. He builds me up in everything I do. Hiking back up a mountain when neither of us feel 100%, discussing our faith, struggles and victories, professional accomplishments, I can talk through all of this with him and know he will listen. I can honestly say I am a more confident person because of the years of love and encouragement from Tyler.

There isn’t anyone else I’d rather enjoy the top of mountains with. It was a blast spending year 30 with Tyler. I am pumped for year 31 to 100!
